Which message survives
contact with the buyer?

A Gutsy Campaign Development study for OLIPOP's next flavour and collab push, anchored on Banana Cream. OLIPOP's own message territories and pack claims, scored with three AI-lookalike audiences and set against the competitive frame.

Gutsy Intelligence
Executive Summary

The message that survives: what is in the can, proven on the label

Five message territories from OLIPOP's own campaigns and six pack claims, scored with three audiences. Product truth leads; OLIPOP's own fiber claims are the most believed; character-led and gut-health-first messaging should not carry the Banana Cream push.

Claim Testing · Belief

The fiber claims OLIPOP owns are its most believed

The top four sit within 0.1 of each other; "Prebiotic" (7.0) and sugar counts (6.7) lose Wellness Warriors. Commuter Belt Couples believe every claim.

Gutsy product scoring, 94 prebiotic soda products. Believability is averaged over the listings that carry each claim; "flagged" counts listings where Gutsy's claim-vs-ingredient check marks the claim as unsupported by the listed ingredients. Directional: OLIPOP listings share one claim set, so claim and brand effects are not fully separable.

Claim Testing · Substantiation

Gutsy flags "Prebiotic" on 39% of the listings that carry it

The gut-health claims carry the substantiation risk. A class action filed December 17, 2025 in New York federal court alleges OLIPOP's gut-health claims are misleading; the allegations are unresolved. On the Banana Cream 12-pack listing, four claims are flagged because it lists one ingredient: banana.

What Each Audience Needs to Hear

One message spine, three different proofs

Wellness Warriors

Lead: product truth (5.9), closed on fiber you can verify: "Plant Fiber" 7.8, "High Fiber" 7.8.

Proof they need: grams and fiber sources on the label. OLIPOP's trust ranks #28 of 29 with them.

Avoid: "Prebiotic" alone (7.0), sugar counts (6.7), characters (2.5).

Finance District

Lead: product truth (4.9), their best OLIPOP territory; no territory reaches 5.0.

Proof they need: quality cues, not price: "High Fiber" is their most believed claim (8.0).

Avoid: mass and cartoon codes: characters 2.3, seasonal mood 3.1.

Commuter Belt Couples

Lead: soda nostalgia win-back (7.1) and the feel-good platform (6.6).

Proof they need: little: they believe every claim tested (8.1 to 8.2). Keep it easy and familiar.

Avoid: mood without product (4.1) and characters (3.1).

Recommended Message House

For Banana Cream: sell the flavour, prove the fiber, keep the gut claims in support

Umbrella
Platform line (keep)

"The feel good soda"

Strongest OLIPOP execution carries it: "A Good Start" film scores a message score of 6.5 WW and 7.4 CB.

Pillar 1 · What it tastes like

The "Like sipping a..." format, applied to Banana Cream

Product truth, the lead territory (5.9 WW, 4.9 FD). Close every spot on fiber grams.

Pillar 2 · What is in it

"Plant Fiber, Botanicals" · "Microbiome Approved"

Lead claims: believed 7.8 to 8.2, OLIPOP-only, rarely flagged.

Pillar 3 · Why it is worth it

"I thought I had to give up soda... until I found OLIPOP."

Win-back for Commuter Belt Couples (7.1).

Claim hierarchy

Lead: Plant Fiber, Microbiome Approved, grams of fiber. Support: Supports Digestive Health, Prebiotic, only next to grams. Avoid: characters as the message; gut-health-first headlines.

Foundation for every pillar: a complete Banana Cream listing with full ingredients, fiber source and grams per can. All lines shown are existing OLIPOP copy.

Message Risks

Three claim risks to manage before the push

Gut-health claims under allegation

A class action filed December 17, 2025 in New York federal court alleges the gut-health claims are misleading. With Wellness Warriors, OLIPOP ranks #28 of 29 on trust and #24 of 29 on claim-risk safety. Keep these claims in support, next to grams.

The character outshines the claim

The Minions launch carries a vampire risk of 7.8 to 8.6: shoppers remember the character, not OLIPOP's fiber story.

The listing undercuts the claims

The Banana Cream 12-pack listing shows one ingredient under four functional claims; Gutsy rates its healthwashing risk medium. Fix it before media points traffic there.

Gutsy brand intelligence (29 functional-soda brands), campaign scoring and product scoring. Legal exposure not assessed; route claim copy through counsel.

Sources & Methodology

How this was built

Study: Gutsy Campaign Development, Message & Claim Testing: copy and persuasion analysis in key-message and claim mode, for the next OLIPOP flavour and collab push anchored on Banana Cream.

Dataset: 10 OLIPOP campaigns grouped into 5 message territories, plus 20 competitor campaigns (Poppi 7, Zevia 5, Liquid Death 8) from Gutsy's campaign catalogue; 94 prebiotic soda product families with their pack claims, from walmart.com, amazon.com, amazon.ca and wholefoodsmarket.com; brand records for 29 functional-soda brands.

Scoring: Gutsy AI-lookalike audience simulation for Wellness Warriors, Finance District and Commuter Belt Couples. Message score is the average of strategic insight, emotional resonance and brand linkage. Claim believability is Gutsy's claim-belief score averaged over the listings carrying each claim; substantiation flags come from Gutsy's claim-vs-ingredient check. Negative signals are turned around before averaging.

Not assessed: market size, share and sales (not in Gutsy's dataset); live A/B tests; legal review of claims. Copy lines are scored through the campaign that carries them. Panel quotes and illustrative identities are AI-lookalike reads of Gutsy scores, not consumer research.
